Is his ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan really a covert plan to make America white again?

It wasn’t difficult to work out during his campaign rallies that he was a misogynist; his derogatory comments about women are legendary. It also became clear that he was also a racist when, on his first day in office, he brought a huge chunk of the world to a standstill with his ‘Muslim ban’.

Since the end of the Second World War, it has been unthinkable for the majority of society to show any Nazi tendencies in public. There are followers, of course, but for the most part they have lived out their fantasies behind closed doors. Until Charlottesville. On 12 August 2017, the leader of the free world stood back as people freely marched with Nazi banners and slogans; and when a young woman was run down in Charlottesville by a white supremacist, he said there were good people on both sides.

His immigration levels have been slashed to the bone yet he is still demanding his wall. Surely, even he must realise that trying to rid America of everyone of colour simply is never going to happen; it is surely too late to do that. The world is now a mix of numerous cultures and all the better for it, in my view.

A meeting was held in the Oval Office during the early stages of Trump’s presidency. It was to thank three chiefs representing the 400–500 Native Americans from various tribes who had served in the US Marine Corps during the Second World War as ‘code talkers’. By transmitting messages over radio or military telephone in the Navajo language, they were able to pass messages which the enemy were not able to transcribe. These Native American tribes had been virtually wiped out by the early settlers, yet despite that history, they risked their lives during the war.

This was the very first time anyone had acknowledged their contribution, and Trump used their special historical moment to denigrate Senator Elizabeth Warren by calling her Pocahontas. It was a joke that went horribly wrong. It was insensitive, rude and embarrassing on so many levels, not only to these three elderly men who were there to represent their various tribes, but also to use the opportunity to denigrate a female senator.
